What to expect during your visit.

Expect “Vibrant Health, Lived Well.”

What does “Vibrant Health, Lived Well” actually mean? It means you can live with or have the best health, the greatest health that you ever experienced in your entire life. You can have a better quality of healthy life, knowing that that you are disease free and that you can stop disease before it even attaches to you and, if needed, you can quickly reverse disease, too. This is what it means to live a life of “Vibrant Health Lived Well.”

Whether you are familiar with Acupuncture care or this is your first time, you can expect your visit to be new and different from any other healthcare experience you’ve ever had. Our individual and comprehensive programs are life-changing.

SLWC is an open-door facility; therefore, you don't need an appointment. You can walk in whenever we’re open and be seen by our licensed acupuncturist whenever it’s convenient for you. You can even book acupuncture sessions for evenings and weekends. You won't need a referral or any insurance to receive care immediately, either. You may experience a 30-45 minute wait before seeing your doctor, but wait times are minimal and usually just enough time to complete your initial paperwork. This is to help our acupuncturist get a better idea of your health history and current needs in order to possibly recommend additional health modalities that may benefit you.

During your first visit, your acupuncturist will explain how symptomatic dysfunctions occur, how an acupuncturist can correct them, and the many benefits acupuncture has to offer. If you've never been to an acupuncturist before, this is a great way to have some of your questions answered by a knowledgeable licensed acupuncturist, so you know exactly what to expect. The acupucturist will answer any questions or concerns you may have prior to initiating treatment.

Your consultation, exam, and more

During your consultation and exam, Dr. El will determine if you may benefit from acupuncture and/or other natural health modalities. If so, you will be attended to in a private, closed door area on a comfortable acupuncture table made specifically for this purpose.

You will remain fully clothed for the duration of your visit. We recommend you wear non-restrictive clothing to make it easier to rest comfortably while lying down on the table.

Is acupuncture safe?

A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi (CHEE) — which flows through the pathways (meridians) in your body. Acupuncturists conclude that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your chi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow back into balance. It is done by putting very thin needles into your skin at certain points on your body. This is done to influence the energy flow. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles. Acupuncture is considered very safe by even most traditional medical practitioners and health organizations.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture rarely 'hurts.' The most that people experience is a dull ache around the base of the inserted needle, or a slight tingling feeling when the needle is inserted. Points at the extremities, like ears, toe or finger ends, can sometimes be a little sharp, but the sensation is usually brief.

How long will my visits take?

This all depends on the length and severity of your condition; however, most first visits may last as much as an hour and half. Follow-up visits are much shorter, often as little as 30-45 minutes.

What happens when other health modalities are recommended?

Many patients have very complex issues where sometimes there is a need for Acupuncture, Applied Therapeutic Science, and/or Nourishment. However, some of our patients have multiple ailments where we need to treat 2, 3 or more ailments at the same time to help the patient quickly achieve optimal health. In this case, many of our loyal patients take advantage our Wellness Coaching Program. This can extend the patient visit by as much as 30-45 minutes.

How often will I need to return?

At the end of your first visit, your doctor will determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs. The frequency which you receive care is strictly up to the professional judgment of the acupuncture provider and will vary from individual to individual, depending on your presenting condition and overall health goals.

Our provider treats you using acupuncture and other proven modalities. During the course of your exam, if they feel that additional care is needed that is not offered at our office, we may refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider and/or facility.

If you have specific questions, needs or concerns, you are always welcome to call Sustaining Life Wellness Center and speak with one of our friendly staff members.
